REVIEW
I’ve been to McNellie’s before, but only ever gone for their unrivaled beer selection. Today, however, I thought I’d try out their other menu: food.
Not long after entering, a hostess came and directed us to our seats. The table was ridiculously small and we had to adjust it to make room for our legs. The rest of the interior was dimly lit, with mugs lining the walls emblazoning patrons’ names on them.
Looking over the menu, my fiancé went with the Open-Faced Chili Cheeseburger. I decided on a pub favorite, Fish & Chips, and paired it with a Chimay Triple draught.
After a short wait, our dishes arrived. The “fish” part of my dish was lackluster. Although the fish itself was hot and flakey, it lacked seasoning. The breading used was extra crispy and tasted burnt, as if it were overcooked or the oil was old. The tartar sauce was good. The “chips” part was cooked and seasoned well. The cheeseburger was completely overpowered by the chili, which had a good but mild flavor. The meat was not even noticeable until it was isolated from the chili. On its own, it was way too salty.
If you’re looking for a pub with a large selection of good beer and has food, I recommend you give McNellie’s a try. However, I also recommend you have a few drinks before ordering the food.
