REVIEW

During a recent trip down to Corpus Christi, we stopped in at Señor Jaime’s (If you’re in the area, look for the giant rooster in front). We came at an off hour, so there was only two other tables seated in the restaurant. For some reason, the waitress sat us on the complete opposite side of the restaurant from the rest of the guests.

After being seated, we looked over the menu and picked out what we wanted to order. Then we waited some more. Then longer. Eventually, I flagged down a manager and he got our waitress for us.

We ordered; My girlfriend asking for the Señor-Rito with brown sauce and Spanish Rice and I asked for the Tinga Tostadas and Spanish Rice. We also asked for some tortillas.

After a short while, our meals were brought out and the waitress apologized for her earlier tardiness, offering complimentary sopapillas for after the meal.

The Señor-Rito had a good flavor, but the chicken inside was under-seasoned. The Tinga Tostadas had a spicy BBQ flavor (I liked, but she didn’t) and was cooked well. It was, however, somewhat hard to eat. Back on the opposite spectrum, the rice was bland the waitress never brought out our tortillas. She did bring out the sopapillas which were delicious, but could have benefited from some extra honey.

Overall, Señor Jaime’s cooks up some good food and the decor far transcends the generic feel of many Tex-Mex restaurants. The service on this visit was horrible, but I have a suspicion during a busier time it would be much improved.
