REVIEW

Kirby’s has the appeal of Grandma’s kitchen. That is to say the food may not be the healthiest for you, but you’ll feel at home while visiting. The waitresses act as if you’re coming over to visit and they just happen to have some food about to come out of the oven.

I ordered a plate of some of my personal favorite comfort food: chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra, salad, and a dinner roll.

The salad was prepared with fresh ingredients and the roll was soft and warm. The chicken was moist, despite the risky maneuver of cutting every piece to check its doneness. Luckily, they were cooked perfectly and then seasoned to further perfection. The potatoes and okra, however, were under-seasoned.

While Kirby’s lacks the refinement of a five-star establishment, I don’t think it bothers them much. Come in, comfort yourself with the food of your childhood, and leave with a full stomach.
