Boomerang is that type of place that takes you to another time and place. With the same feel of an authentic 60s diner, complete with coca-cola decor, you know you’re in for some old fashioned burgers as soon as you enter. Unfortunately, that’s where the welcome feeling ended. Although I was acknowledged when I entered, I sat myself and then was ignored for a few minutes before a waitress came and asked if I’d been helped. Informing her I hadn’t, she began to take my order. I decided upon the Patty Melt Burger Basket, which comes with a side of French Fries.
The waitress was friendly as she took my order, but as I waited for my food to arrive, I could hear her bickering amongst other staff members from across the restaurant. In a short while, she brought out my food and I could focus on my meal and drown out the background noise.
I tried the first first, which were cooked through and still warm, but needed more seasoning. Trying the Patty Melt, I felt the flavors went well together, however there was nothing special about the meal. The meat was cooked properly, but also required additional seasoning, and the onions were a little chewy. The bread was just like any store-bought bread (I’d go so far as to guess it’s Sunbeam Giant). Furthermore, the cheese was only partially melted on the patty melt.
Overall, my initial impression was correct. Boomerang is a place you go to when you’re not looking for anything fancy. You go to Boomerang when you want a good, old fashioned burger and fries. While there were some minor issues with my visit, any of the burger baskets will satisfy your burger craving and will probably end up being less expensive than going through a drive thru.
