REVIEW
Steak & Eggs has that old fashioned country feel to it with its wooden exterior complete with silo. Stepping in, the wood theme continues with wood covering the interior as well. It’s the type of place where you already know what the menu is before you even put a foot in the door; it’s all in the name. Perhaps this is why as soon as my waitress handed me my menu she asked if I knew what I wanted. As a first time customer, I decided to look over the menu, which was riddled with advertisements, a personal pet peeve. My eyes focused on the steaks. Hey, if it’s in the name then they must know how to cook it, right? I chose to go with a medium Ribeye served with a Baked Potato, Fried Okra, and Garlic Toast.
As I waited for my meal to arrive, I took in the atmosphere. It is obvious the restaurant’s main clientele are regulars. Some older gentlemen were at a table chatting it up, having their meals finished quite some time ago. A new group came in and the waitress greeted them by name. Signs all pointing to a loyal customer base. Hopefully, they are loyal because the food is amazing. As I pondered, my dish landed on the table and I could find out for myself.
Cutting into my steak, I noted it was just a tad over medium, but not quite medium well. As I took a bite, it had a decent flavor and was simply seasoned. However, the cut of meat was lower quality causing it be a bit chewy. The okra had a nice breading to it and a good texture, but required additional seasoning. The potato was a complete disappointment. It was undercooked and still very hard in the center. It was underseasoned as well. The toast had a good flavor to it and was toasted quite well.
Overall, my experience at Steak & Eggs was lukewarm. While some elements worked perfectly, others fell flat. There was nothing enticing about this visit that would turn me into one of their regulars. Likewise, it was not so bad that I won’t return.
